• Notes

  Elizabeth Surtees-Allnatt wrote a pamphlet The Rise and Progress of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem (Griffith & Farran, St. Paul's Churchyard, London), published in 1892. A newspaper report in January 1901 refers to a break in at the house of Mr. R. Schofield Surtees, at Gyffin. It reports that "Mrs Elizabeth Schofield Surtees, who said that she was the wife of Mr Robert Schofield Milne, commenly known as Mr Schofield. She now lived at Marble House, Hereford." This suggests Elizabeth remarried. Mr Schofield is generally know as the writer of brilliant romances on Welsh subjects, un the pseudonym of "Gwen Rhoseomyl."
